THE OLD CITY TREASURE HUNT

A JOURNEY BACK IN TIME

The Old City of London has 2,000 years of history both within and beneath its streets. Through its heart there snake a delightful warren of narrow alleyways where history was made and time stands still.

On this treasure hunt we get you away from the main thoroughfares and into this secret world of memories and shadows. Your quest begins outside Bank Underground Station and within moments you have found your way to a true city institution where people have been enjoying their leisure hours for close on three hundred years. Once here you must decipher the code of your first clue in order to figure out where to go next.

Should you, for example, go into the old churchyard and hunt amongst the gravestones for a particular date? Should you find the bust of Charles Dickens and translate the Latin inscription engraved upon it? Should find the ancient dragon and follow the way it points? Maybe you shouldn't do any of these. The only certainty is that you must do something.

From then on you must pick your way in and out of old buildings and old alleyways. You must find your way down into the buried City and seek a Roman Gladiator who might be able to answer a crucial clue that helps you to progress further through your London Treasure Hunt Quest.

You must find ways of looking up at roof top statues (we don't ask you to climb by the way) in order that you might learn what secrets they are guarding or gazing down upon.

You must discover dates and other nuggets of historic fact that might be on blue plaques, information boards or even in today's newspaper!

It should be stressed that you do not need any knowledge of London or London's history in order to complete the Treasure Hunt route. Everything you will need will be in the pack that is handed out to your team at the start of the quest. Indeed many people have discovered that knowledge of the area is more of a hindrance than a help because it might lead you to make dangerous suppositions about what you are being asked to do. The way to find your way around the Old City route is to read each question, figure out what it is asking you to do and then following your instincts into the historic recesses of the old City of London. In so doing you will set your team on the road to victory as those teams who believe they know what they're doing hurry past you, often in completely the wrong direction.

The treasure hunt pack also contains a sheet of observation questions the answers to which will be found all over the route. They might be dates on boards, the names of architects who built specific buildings, or even the date when an eminent citizen died. Don't worry; every one of the questions is answerable albeit you must keep a keen eye peeled in order that you won’t miss the answer when it appears.

This really is one of our most popular treasure hunts as it combines a great deal of fact and history with some of the oldest and most fascinating places in London. Places that have often changed little in over a hundred years. Places where every step taken gives you the distinct impression that you've been transported back in time.

It is the perfect area in which to work as a team, and observe your surroundings in order to find your way through the heart of the old city and answer the observation questions that will enable you to forge ahead and vanquish your challengers (or work mates, depending on how you view these things!)

So if you want to experience a team building exercise that will take you through a fascinating section of Old London then give the Old City treasure hunt a try.

The cost of the Old City Treasure Hunt as a self managed event is £140 plus VAT. For this we provide you with four packs. Inside each will be a sheet of 'Rules and Pointers'; a sheet of cryptic clues and a sheet of observation questions. You will also be provided with a sealed envelope containing the answers to the observation questions. You will then be responsible for briefing the teams and marking the answers at the end of the treasure hunt. If you would like us to provide an event manager this can be done at a cost of £550 plus VAT.
